Testing and trialling new water technologies is essential to ensure they are safe, reliable and efficient before full-scale deployment. Field trials validate equipment performance under real-world conditions, build confidence and enable informed selection and operation.

Regulatory testing enables suppliers to demonstrate performance to the end user, to give them confidence in the technology they used.

WRc testing capabilities and experience

WRc undertakes testing for technology supplies, either as formal testing such as for MCERTS or bespoke testing programmes. We often get involved in unusual testing requirements, developing testing methods and adapting our facilities.

There are number of specific tests that WRc has developed bespoke rigs and build experience to deliver, including leak tightness testing to WIS 4-34-07 (specification for leak tightness testing of cured-in-place-pipe lining systems for gravity sewer rehabilitation), jetting resistance and abrasion testing of pipes.

MCERTS testing

WRc provides independent MCERTS testing for equipment manufacturers to demonstrate environmental compliance.

Leak tightness testing

We offer independent leak tightness testing to cut groundwater infiltration and sewer spills for CIPP systems, end seals, and connection collars.

Trials and collaboration in technology evaluation

We bring together suppliers and end users to deliver robust and independent evaluations that support the end user in both selection and operation. We have run several large instrumentation trials through our collaborative Portfolio programme, with the work funded by the water company end users and suppliers providing in-kind support and loan of equipment for the trials.

We also support end users and supply chains with their own technology testing and trials through support with test specification development, trial design, management and quality assurance for field trials.
